<P ALIGN=LEFT><FONT FACE="Times New Roman">Proibidas de dirigir carros nas ruas do reino, as mulheres sauditas estão a partir de agora autorizadas a andar de bicicleta e de motocicleta --desde que estejam completamente cobertas pela vestimenta tradicional "abaya" e sob supervisão de um guardião masculino. </FONT></P>
<P ALIGN=LEFT><FONT FACE="Times New Roman">A notícia, divulgada ontem pelo jornal saudita "Al-Yawm", foi recebida com ironia pelos ativistas de direitos humanos no país. "Não é para o transporte, é para a diversão", diz à Folha Zaki Safar. </FONT></P>
<P ALIGN=LEFT><FONT FACE="Times New Roman">"Não está relacionada com a questão da direção." </FONT></P>
<P ALIGN=LEFT><FONT FACE="Times New Roman">Safar foi um dos ativistas responsáveis pelo movimento Women2Drive, que, em 2011, levou mulheres sauditas aos volantes para desafiar a regra que as proíbe de conduzir. Diversas foram detidas. </FONT></P>
<P ALIGN=LEFT><FONT FACE="Times New Roman">A proibição de que mulheres dirijam carros, oficializada em 1990, tornou-se um dos exemplos de violação dos direitos das mulheres na monarquia saudita, que aplica uma interpretação conservadora da "sharia", a lei islâmica --por exemplo, segregando homens e mulheres em espaços públicos. </FONT></P>
<P ALIGN=LEFT><FONT FACE="Times New Roman">As mulheres também não podem viajar para fora da Arábia Saudita sem a autorização de um homem da família ou de um tutor. </FONT></P>
<P ALIGN=LEFT><FONT FACE="Times New Roman">A permissão para conduzir bicicletas e motocicletas, como nota Safar, vale apenas para o entretenimento. </FONT></P>
<P ALIGN=LEFT><FONT FACE="Times New Roman">A direção deve ocorrer em áreas destinadas ao lazer e sob supervisão de um homem. Não está permitido que uma mulher use uma bicicleta como um meio de transporte. </FONT></P>
<P ALIGN=LEFT><FONT FACE="Times New Roman">GUARDIÃO </FONT></P>
<P ALIGN=LEFT><FONT FACE="Times New Roman">"mulheres estão livres para dirigir bicicletas em parques e diante do mar, entre outras áreas, desde que estejam vestindo-se modestamente, e um guardião masculino tem de estar presente para o caso de acidentes", disse ao "Al-Yawm" uma fonte do Comitê para a Promoção da Virtude e a Prevenção do Vício. </FONT></P>
<P ALIGN=LEFT><FONT FACE="Times New Roman">As autoridades sauditas advertem as mulheres também para que evitem as regiões que sejam frequentadas por jovens, sob risco de serem alvos de assédio. </FONT></P>
<P ALIGN=LEFT><FONT FACE="Times New Roman">Os direitos femininos são um dos temas da tímida abertura saudita. O rei Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud ordenou que mulheres possam ser candidatas e eleitoras nas eleições municipais e que possam participar do conselho consultivo saudita. (DB) </FONT></P>
